Have Nothing In Your House That You Do Not...

Earlier this week, I attended a Development and Training Session at Junior League led by the professional organizer behind "The Inspired Office". Kacy had great tips on getting rid of excess and streamlining systems, and though, to be honest, I don't need any of these tips because I am clutter free to a fault, it was great to hear her reiterate some of my favorite organizing tricks. However, those will have to be for another day.

Today, I wanted to focus on the quote she ended with. It's a favorite of mine, written by William Morris, the founder of the Arts and Crafts Movement.

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”

I've tried to decorate my apartment with this mindset. When I moved, I threw away, donated, or sold anything that wasn't absolutely functional AND something that I adored having on display. Space is always at a premium in an apartment and I want to make sure that my home doesn't feel cluttered or cramped. Everything is intentional, purposeful, and I try to avoid anything that feels too worn or ragged. While I will get an entire house tour up at some point so that y'all can see all the projects I've been working on, here are a few little vignettes from around my apartment that drive this point home.

Drapery - Table - Chairs {vintage} - Pillows

Bookshelf - Pineapple {Target - old}

Plates - Candle {smells AMAZING!}

Look! Proof that I don't always use have to use lots of color!!
Canisters {perfect for toiletries that I use every morning and evening!} - Lamp

 Bench {re-purposed found coffee table} - Pillow

  1. What did you use to sell your unused stuff? eBay? Or is there a better go-to place for you?

  2. I have that Target pineapple in navy blue! Love it.
