Shell and Freshwater Pearl Necklace and Earrings

I first made a necklace out of these shell beads several years ago when I was living in Charlottesville and selling my jewelry at a boutique on the Corner. At the time, the necklace was just three strands of shells with a silver clasp… I decided to go a different route this go around. I took the number of strands down from three to two to make it a little more casual and understated. I went for a longer necklace but didn’t want the number of shells to seem overwhelming, so at the point where it goes behind the neck I added a flat mother of pearl disc then continued with one strand of freshwater pearls to a silver toggle at the back. Each strand of beads or pearls is finished with a small crystal bead for a touch of sparkle.
The earrings are the perfect finishing touch, one shell with a small freshwater pearl at the bottom.
This set will look fabulous together or on its own, with a little black dress or with jeans and a sweater as I am wearing it today (yes, it’s sweater weather… in May.)
