Make Mine Virginia Wine

My last couple weekends have been filled with Virginia Wine. Memorial Day weekend was spent in Charlottesville for Austin’s Bachelorette weekend, and on Saturday we did a tour of several wineries: Pollack Vineyards, Afton Mountain Vineyard, Veritas Vineyard, and King Family Vineyards (my personal favorite.) It was a perfect day and the Blue Ridge Mountains are the best backdrop in the world.Last Saturday, I attended the Vintage Virginia Wine Festival. It was absolutely sweltering, but I have a new favorite Virginia vineyard, Saude Creek Vineyards out of Williamsburg. They have a sweet Colonial Red that was reminiscent of apples and cinnamon and served chilled. It tasted like a refreshing sip of Christmas (refreshing and Christmas… doesn’t make sense, but I swear that’s what it tastes like!)

I am not always a huge wine fan, so I’m sure it’s a combination of the wine itself and the Virginian appeal, but these past couple weekends have definitely gotten me hooked on buying from local vineyards.

That Colonial Red sounds so good! I might have to keep an eye out for it at the store!
