Living Room on a Budget

I was recently given the task of designing an entire living room on a small budget. Working with absolutely nothing existing, I managed to pick pieces that are affordable, but classic, and kept the entire room to under $1,200. While these may not be investment pieces, they are attractive and of good enough quality that they will grow with the room as higher end pieces are added. This is always important to keep in mind when decorating throughout your young professional years (or any years!). Even when you have to save on a sofa rather than splurge, don’t waste your money on a filler that happens to be the cheapest thing you can find. Get something that you will enjoy having in your home and decorating around until your budget grows.

As you know, I’m a girl that likes a lot of white and a lot of bright color, so this was a good exercise in restraint for me. Plus, it’s evidence I can, in fact, design a neutral room. I went for a taupe, espresso, muted blue palette so that it’s slightly masculine without being heavy. The profiles are clean lined and the colors, calming. Accessorizing will come later, but I think this room has a solid foundation for the time being.
