I’m sure I’m not the only one that went through a cable knit sweater phase in college. I had all different colors and thought they just looked so perfectly preppy and collegiate, however those sweaters found their way to the local consignment store shortly after graduation. The only one that’s hung on over the years is a gorgeous espresso colored cashmere that is absolutely timeless.
On a cool morning this past weekend, I pulled out that cashmere cable knit and paired it with winter white and black for a refined, yet casual, look. Perfect for strolling through the farmers’ market in the morning and then going out for a late brunch.
While brown and black can be a fashion don’t, they can also be a stunning combination when combined purposefully, and the winter white lightens up the entire ensemble. I was in Nashville when I wore this so I opted for black cowboy boots (when in Rome, right?), but you could also go for a pair of black booties for a trendier look or chic black riding boots to dress it up a bit.
I also love that each of these cold weather pieces are tailored and flattering rather than thick and frumpy. The winter white skirt is nipped in at the waist and flares out for a feminine and flirty fit that’s just as comfortable for a weekend brunch as it is an evening out. Depending on your office dress code, it’s also totally work appropriate with a thick pair of tights.
Who else is a fan of brown and black together? Anyone ventured into black and navy territory? That combo still seems a bit inaccessible to me, but I may try it in a blog post this winter!
