Travel Recap: Mobile, Alabama Mardi Gras

This past weekend I was down in Mobile, Alabama to celebrate Mardi Gras—my first Mardi Gras experience of any sort! The celebrations and revelry in Mobile actually go back farther than those in New Orleans, but it’s pleasantly void of the tourists and hype they have over in Louisiana (though that’s also on my bucket list!)

NPR Morning Edition actually featured the Mardi Gras celebrations in Mobile, and describes exactly the two days of tradition, merrymaking, and slight debauchery that I enjoyed. It was a colorful, slightly mysterious, and definitely a bit bizarre experience, and I would absolutely do it again. Though I would work on my hand-eye coordination next time. Far too many Moon Pie’s flew right by my outstretched hands.

I wish I had my camera with me for more of the weekend, but it didn’t seem a wise decision. Luckily, I was able to capture a few pictures at one of the smaller day parades.

Also, I did Rent the Runway for the first time EVER for a ball on Saturday night and thrilled with the dress I rented. I waited too long and pickings were slim, but this dress was absolutely perfect for the occasion and fit like a glove. I’m not sure I would do Rent the Runway for a normal wedding or cocktail party, but it’s the right choice when you need an actual gown that you’ll likely never wear again.
