A few weekends ago, I headed south for a friend’s 30th birthday. A former Winston-Salem resident, she wanted to get everyone together in her favorite town to celebrate. I’ve been all over North Carolina, but had never spent time in Winston-Salem, and I had no idea what I was missing out on! It’s a small southern town that’s full of both art and history, along with a lot of good southern food and laid back drinking.
I wish I had spent more time walking around with my camera, but here are a few snapshots I took in Old Salem and around downtown. There is SO much street art—there’s literally something hiding around every corner, and that’s where I missed my opportunity to go crazy with pictures. Guess I’ll be planning a trip back…
My Winston-Salem recommendations? Camino Bakery for coffee, Wise Man Brewing for a fun afternoon of local beers and food truck fried chicken, Sweet Potatoes for a food coma inducing southern brunch, Spring House for a sophisticated dinner, strolling around downtown Winston for a dose of art, and Old Salem for an bit of colonial history (and some Moravian cookies!).
