Well, Hello, Sugar and Hello, Spring

The sun is out, the temperatures are warming up, and spring finally seems to be right around the corner! As much as I love winter, I’m so ready for long days spent roaming about DC, exploring new parts of the city, eating as many meals al fresco as weather allows, and enjoying all the perks of living in a city where every errand is an excuse to talk a stroll outside.

WHAT’S ON TAP THIS SPRING?

Our spring schedule is already shaping up to be a fun one! We have a few concerts – I’m particularly excited to see Beck later this month and Chromeo in June, a crawfish boil, a few one night weekend getaways, celebrations for friends getting married and friends having babies. I have a friend’s bachelorette party in NYC and several fun blogger and DC creatives events over the next few weeks.

Of course, I’ll also want to add lots of DC spring items to the list, perhaps a Nats game or two, drinks down on the water, a trip out to the Northern Virginia wineries, weekend mornings at the farmers market, and weekend afternoons picnicking in the park (though I need to find a new one now that I live in Northeast!).

WHAT I’M TOTING AROUND

With all these spring days in DC ahead, I would prefer to carry around a little clutch or cross body bag while I’m on the go, but that’s just not realistic for the side hustle life. Luckily, there are plenty of options for adorable tote bags out there, and this “Hello, Sugar” tote bag from Draper James definitely fits the bill. It’s perfectly spacious for all the necessities I have with me on a daily basis.

So, what’s in my bag most days? Well, of course my camera, my planner, but there’s also one other item I’ve added into my bag for these long days. Kleenex Wet Wipes are a life saver on days when I’m out and about from morning to night. When you’re on the go, bouncing from place to place, sometimes you need to freshen up a bit, wipe off the day’s grime from your hands, take a quick swipe to refresh your face. Kleenex Wet Wipes don’t have any harsh chemicals, they’re ideal for use on face and hands, and are exactly what I need to have in my tote to get me through busy spring days. (Tip: If you download the Ibotta app, you can get $1 off when you buy 2 at Walgreens!)

MY FAVORITE PIECES FOR SPRING

Some of my favorite pieces for early spring are versatile neutrals you can wear again and again. This gray cashmere v-neck from Everlane is something I wore repeatedly throughout the fall and winter and now I’m carrying it right through spring. It’s lightweight enough to wear on mild days and I just love how this gray looks with white. Plus, it’s a steal at $100 and wears beautifully.

A pair of white skinny jeans is a must have all year long in my wardrobe, especially in the spring. It’s the perfect light, crisp pant that makes an outfit feel freshened up for warm weather. The same sweater that’s cozy with leather leggings looks bright and airy when paired with white jeans.

I’ve worn these J.Crew gold mules so, so many times since I bought them in the fall, and while they’re sold out now, you can find a similar pair from Cole Haan. You can dress them up, dress them down. These are the best purchase you’ll make all year.

Lastly, I picked up this pair of Kate Spade earrings at a little outlet shop called Yarid’s in Lewisburg, West Virginia (the same shop where I found my Kate Spade shoes for the wedding!) and I love how a fun statement earring can make an outfit. There’s nothing like a little bit of sparkle to dress up spring neutrals.
