As someone with porcelain skin (as I like to call it), SPF is a way of life for me – no matter what time of year. But, during the summer, when we’re, of course, wearing clothes and swimsuits that expose a little more skin than usual, remembering sunscreen is even more important. I’ve tried more formulas than I can count, and I have a good idea of what I’m looking for, so I wanted to share my top sunscreen picks with all of you.
WHAT MAKES A GREAT SUNSCREEN
For me, the number one factors, besides being effective, is that a sunscreen doesn’t smell or feel like the sunscreens we’re used to slathering ourselves with on beach days. While I love a nice coconut smell when I’m sitting under an umbrella listening to the waves crash, I don’t need that every day. I want a sunscreen that absorbs into my skin, is unscented, and is at least SPF 30, if not more.
A quick outfit note: This packable hat from Tuckernuck is everything – not too big, not too small, it’s perfect for every day. I’m obsessed with this striped towel, also from Tuckernuck – a sweet friend who’s getting married next week (!!) had these monogrammed for us at her bachelorette party. I love a good high waisted bathing suit and this ruched number from J.Crew is the best, so I’m glad to see they’re still carrying it this year. The top is from a few years ago as well, and while it’s not available any more, you could grab this cute tie-front top.
MY FAVORITE SUNSCREENS
So, what are the sunscreens that I use on a daily basis? I have different formulas for my face, body, and also depending on the occasion. But right now, these are the sunscreens I reach for again and again.
- Chuda Sheer Hydrating Lotion SPF 30: This is the sunscreen I apply over my moisturizer every single day. It’s so lightweight that makeup applies beautifully on top of it. While I prefer a slightly higher SPF if I’m going to be out in the sun ALL day (fair skin problems!), this is absolutely perfect for just day-to-day life.
- Clarins Wrinkle Control Sunscreen SPF 50+: If I’m going to be exposed to the sun all day long, this is what I reach for. I love that it’s not only a high SPF at 50, but it’s also an anti-aging formula. When I use this sunscreen, I feel like I’m protecting my face as much as I can without putting on a hat and hiding from the sun.
- Neutrogena Hydro Boost SPF 30 or 50: Available in two SPF formulas, this is my daily go-to for slathering all over my neck, chest, arms, and hands (and legs, too, if they’re exposed!). IT has absolutely no scent, absorbs super quickly, and feels like I’m just applying lotion rather than greasy sunscreen.
One thing I’ve had a difficult time finding is a lip balm with SPF! Besides for the Fresh Sugar lip balms, which are just a tad bit expensive, particularly for an item that we often misplace, there’s not a whole lot out there. Recently I picked up a Neutrogena SPF lip balm which I’m liking so far, but, still, it’s shocking there aren’t more options!
So, what are your favorite sunscreens in the summer – and year round? Let me know below in the comments!
Thank you to Neutrogena and Chuda for sending me their sunscreens to try out! I’m so happy they’ve made their way into my daily routine and, as always, I’m grateful for the brands that make this blog possible!
