Winter Beauty Favorites: It’s All About Moisture

It’s been a while since I’ve done a beauty post, but that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped trying out new products and keeping stock of my favorites! Now that we’re into winter, it’s all about moisture.

MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE

This week, after a few too many days of using Retin-A (mostly this – gotta keep up with that 10 year challenge that’s taken over Facebook…) and a particularly cold spell in DC, my skin was left feeling like sandpaper.

That’s why moisture is so essential to your skincare routine throughout the winter. Nobody wants to feel dull and dry, and while chugging liters of water a day certainly sets you up for success from the inside out, sometimes you have to bring in the heavy duty products to really amp up the hydration.

START YOUR MORNINGS OFF BY SOOTHING YOUR SKIN

The first product I’m loving this winter is…actually not a moisturizer. BUT, it is one of my favorite self care practices each day and I think it reminds me that being intentional is so important to taking care of myself – both inside and out.

That product is: A JADE ROLLER (it’s under $12!!). Yup, I realize you’ve been seeing these all over Instagram for what seems like forever, but I finally jumped on the bandwagon a few months ago. Is it getting rid of all my fine lines? I don’t know. But, it does feel delightful, particularly since I keep it in the fridge. I roll it upwards and outwards across my chin, cheek, and forehead, then turn the small end towards my eyes. It’s such a relaxing way to start my mornings.

SLATHER ON THE OIL

I’ve written about my love for face oils a few times before, but I have a new favorite oil for bedtime. It’s the Derma-E Essentials Rejuvenating Sage and Lavender Face Oil that you can pick up for under $15 at Whole Foods or on Amazon. The smell is so calming, and I love waking up feeling glowy and soft.

Wondering how to use face oil? I layer mine on top of my moisturizer to seal it in, and then I pat a bit more on in the morning if I don’t plan on washing my face right away.

SEAL IN MOISTURE WITH AN OVERNIGHT MASK

On nights when I’m feeling particularly dehydrated, I pile on the Fountain of Truth Dream Cream Overnight Repair Mask. I lightly pat this on my skin in a thick layer – nope, it doesn’t rub all the way in – and I let it work its magic overnight. While I got this product complimentary, I will absolutely repurchase it once I’m out (though it has lasted for months so far!) – and that’s the real test of an amazing product.

Wondering how to use it? This goes after my normal moisturizer and before my face oil.

HYDRATION HEAD TO TOE

Of course, you can’t forget the rest of your body – it’s not just your face that needs an extra dose of moisture in the winter! I’ve been using Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Body Gel Cream each day after I get out of the shower. With hyaluronic acid, it adds a bit of suppleness that you won’t get from a normal moisturizer.

Also, I’ve sung the praises of Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost line previously, and every product continues to live up to expectations.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE WINTER BEAUTY PRODUCTS?

Do you have a favorite winter beauty product to provide moisture and hydration? I’d love to hear some of your recommendations – particularly if you know of a wonderful hand cream!
