The Best Bralettes + Why I’ve Given up on Underwire Bras Completely

In my old age (well, thirties), I’m all about comfort—and that’s why I’m sharing with you the best bralettes, the bralettes from cozy to sexy that you absolutely need in your wardrobe, and why I’ve totally given up on wearing “real” bras.

WHY I’VE GIVEN UP ON REAL BRAS

I realize that being small-chested makes this easier, but, y’all, the dawn of bralettes made me realize that underwire bras are just AWFUL and uncomfortable. Seriously, why are we torturing ourselves with hard wires poking into our ribcage—particularly when it’s 90+ degrees out?!

Maybe I was born in the wrong generation and I should have been a bra-burner in the 1960s, but I’ve totally abandoned real bras and I’m loving the bralette wardrobe that now occupies my underwear drawer. I first started making the switch long before bralettes became totally mainstream for adult women—I would literally buy them from the girls’ section at Target. Thankfully, now there are options that run the gamut from sport to sleek. You can find the most delicate lacy options from brands like Eberjey or go with classic, athletic-inspired bralettes from Calvin Klein.

THE BEST BRALETTES + BUILDING A BRALETTE  WARDROBE

If you’re starting from scratch on replacing your underwire bras and building a bralette wardrobe, there are a just four must-haves that you’ll need. The first is a comfy every-day bralette—this is where I like a plain black, stretchy knit option. Next, add in a practical, but pretty, nude bralette that will work under sheer and light fabrics. Then, choose a comfy, sporty bralette that can do double duty between light athletic activities and cozy mornings around the house (read more about my favorite Calvin Klein underwear here!). Lastly, of course, you’ll want something a little sexy—I love a lacy longline number or something sultry like the Montelle Intimates Night Spell Bralette that I’m wearing here.

Montelle Intimates gifted me this bralette, which fit in perfectly with this post that I already had planned! As always, all thoughts are my own and I’m grateful to the brands that make this blog possible!
