Little Black Dress: Draper James Velvet V-Back Dress Review

Before I get into the Draper James Velvet V-Back Dress Review, I had to let y’all know that the dress is now $67 on the Draper James website! It’s marked down to $112, with an additional 40% off. I’m not sure how long that sale will last, so I’d recommend picking it up ASAP!

We all know that a little black dress is one of those wardrobe items that every woman should have. You can dress it up, dress it down — there’s rarely an occasion that a little black dress can’t get you through. Whether it’s an office holiday party, a big presentation, or a date night, a little black dress is a timeless staple that will always come through. Throw on a leather jacket, a cashmere wrap, booties or heels, the different ways to style an LBD are endless. Hey, you can even switch it up with a little black jumpsuit these days!

A LITTLE BLACK DRESS FOR WINTER

And, of course, there are little black dresses that can get you through all four seasons — a crepe material is a gorgeous option if you’re looking for versatility. But, sometimes, particularly around the holidays, you want something that is quintessentially seasonal. That’s when a velvet little black dress comes into play.

Nothing says cooler weather like velvet. From October through February, I’m taking every opportunity to wear velvet leggings, shoes, and blazers. But, now, I’ve upgraded to a little black velvet dress. This sumptuous material is cozy and refined at the same time — everything you want in a little black dress for winter. You can pair it with tights and flats, a blazer and booties, or heels and sparkly jewelry. It’s the workhouse of your winter party wardrobe.

DRAPER JAMES VELVET V-BACK DRESS REVIEW

So, let’s talk about this specific little black velvet dress: the Draper James Velvet V-Back Dress review. I tried on this classic velvet dress in Reese Witherspoon’s Draper James store in 12 South when I was in Nashville a couple of weeks ago. I went in not intended to buy anything — it’s a cute store, so worth popping in simply for the style inspiration. But, they were having a Black Friday sale and this dress, with its timeless and flattering silhouette, caught my eye.

With an ever-so-slight puff of the sleeve and a sweet scallop along the neckline and down the back, the details are what elevate this dress from a simple LBD to one of the most elegant pieces in your closet. The delicate v-back adds a feminine touch and the discreet grosgrain around the waist defines your figure in a way that’s very Kate Middleton (seriously, that’s who I felt I was channeling with this dress!). The a-line skirt isn’t full, but it has enough movement that it’s flattering on anyone and everyone. Plus, you can’t beat how stunning this black velvet is. This is the dress you need in your closet this winter.

For size reference, I’m wearing a size 2, which is my normal size. It is on final sale at this point on the Draper James website, but it’s a pretty easy fit because of the swingy a-line skirt. If you get your usual size, I don’t think you’ll have any issues.
