I wanted to share this Target dress review because, for the longest time, I’ve avoided clothing from Target. I mean, I swear by these $30 dupes for the Nordstrom Moonlight Pajamas but, when it comes to other items, I’ve been trying to focus on fewer items, secondhand items, and investment pieces.
But this dress caught my eye.
Look, We’re Still in the Year of the House Dress
Why am I buying a dress right now? When I should be sticking to knits and leggings? Well, y’all, it’s a house dress. Sure, I can dress this up, but it’s also comfy and loose enough that I can wear it around the house. Tuesday morning Zoom meeting? I’m there. Friday at-home cocktails? Throw this on.
I’m all about the house dress and feeling fancy while staying comfy. Plus, NPR is in agreement. So, let’s get into the review…
A Fall Leopard Maxi Dress: Target Dress Review
Target has a whole slew of fall maxi dresses to choose from this year but this leopard print caught my eye (no surprise there). The bold print and vibrant color has an artsy vibe that’s still sophisticated.
There’s tiers, yes, and a bit of smocking on the cuff, but those details don’t feel overtly boho (typically, I steer clear of tiers…just not my personal style). It’s an easy dress to wear for date night with a big earring, daytime around the house with a simple stud and a headband, or even for an event, like a socially distanced wedding, with heels and a clutch.
It’s an easy polyester that doesn’t wrinkle, plus it’s lined. There’s a zipper up the side and then a button at the back of the neck.
Regarding sizing, you may want to size up if you’re busty. I was fine with my normal XS but, I definitely noticed it wasn’t as roomy as other Target dresses. That sentiment was confirmed when I read the reviews (consistent 5-star reviews, but a lot of people mentioned that they sized up).
One Last Thought…What Shoes Do I Wear With a Fall Maxi Dress?
This is the one detail that has always kept me away from wearing fall and winter maxi dresses. What the heck do I wear on my feet? Heels aren’t right unless I’m dressing up. Flats feel kind of dowdy. Booties sometimes feel a little bit like…a pilgrim? IDK, I can’t exactly describe it, but it’s like I need the whole boot covered.
So, what kind of shoes do I wear with a fall maxi dress? It comes down to black cowboy boots or black suede knee high boots with a chunky heel. With the cowboy boot, I like that it has a bit of an eclectic, unexpected appeal, I like the pointy toe, the slight heel — it’s a perfect combo with a dress. A bit bohemian, a bit funky, a bit…cowgirl?
Then, the black suede knee high boots. Those are 100% Kate Middleton inspired. Classic. Timeless. Flattering. You can’t go wrong.
