This holiday season, I’m so excited to partner with AllModern on a dining space refresh! When they reached out to me, I was pumped. We have so many items from AllModern in our home — it’s such a wonderful place to find affordable, modern pieces to complement the vintage and antique items that I love using as the foundation for my design.
Their campaign specifically focused on dining rooms and, while our dining area is 99% done (nothing is ever 100%, right?!), there were two areas that I knew needed a little something extra. The first was lighting. We have our chandelier but that section of our living space also requires non-overhead lighting and we’d been using a floor lamp that was fine but not quite right for the space. The second was the table itself. There’s no centerpiece, which is fine, but I wanted something architectural that could live on the table all the time.
Refreshing My Dining Space with AllModern
So, you may have seen my Instagram post yesterday where I talked about design fails. This collaboration started off with a fail. I ordered a large-scale arc lamp to go in the corner behind the leather chair (see here for the lamp that was there previously). The lamp came in and was stunning. It has this incredible black marble base and the brass arc is so well-designed. But it’s also massive. Yes, I ordered it knowing it would be big…but our little city space can’t hold up to something of this scale, at least not with our other items present.
So, it’s back to the drawing board. We need something that wouldn’t take up much room given our small space but that would still pack a visual punch. This awesome hanging sconce is the answer. It leaves the floor space completely open but will still give us the non-overhead light that we need in our dining area. Plus, it has a modern look that’s not quite mid-century — it’s a little bit harder to put your finger on. Then, I’ll add a sculptural candlestick holder to the table for a piece that’s not going to be a dust collector centerpiece, but rather something cool that we can light on any weekday night when we sit down to dinner.
Also, if you’ve been curious about my e-design services, this board is a great example of what I create for my clients, along with a page detailing the design process and the thought behind why it works together, as well as a sourcing sheet.
I created a design board to show what the finished refresh will look like and, for those of you who want to find similar items, I’ve linked items at AllModern that will give you the same feel. You can hover over any item on the board to shop.
What’s Next for this Refresh?
Well, it looks like I’ll be convincing my dear husband to install a wall sconce again…I know he’ll be thrilled for that one (full disclosure: I am capable of installing a sconce and have done it once, but I am not a perfectionist and that’s not a great quality when it comes to working with a power drill).
Once we get the sconce in, we’re going to decide on the chandelier. I love the black chandelier that I included in this vision board however I also still love our gold one. We’ll see with the sconce in place if it’s time to switch it up. Then, we add in the candlestick holder and are good to go for holiday entertaining! Of course, that entertaining is going to look a bit more of the two-person variety this year…
