One fantastic thing that’s come out of 2020: I abandoned store bought ranch dressing for a homemade ranch dry mix. It was one of those early-in-the-pandemic kitchen endeavors that came out of not being able to find anything at the grocery store and, now, I’m never going back. This takes seconds to whip up and tastes so, so, so much better than anything you’ll buy off the shelf. I promise, once you try this, there’s no going back.
Why I Always Have Homemade Ranch Dry Mix on Hand
Look, we love mayonnaise based condiments in my house.* Ranch is one of those condiments. I’d actually never had it until college but late-night College Inn pizza with ranch was a delicacy in Charlottesville and it started a love affair that will never end.
We put ranch on pizza, fries, sandwiches, basically anything unhealthy and delicious that we make, there’s a good chance ranch is going on it. And too often in pre-homemade ranch dry mix days, we’d find ourselves out or, worse yet, with some sort of sub-par option (ugh, like the Trader Joe’s ranch — don’t waste your time).
Now that I always have homemade mix on hand, I can whip this up anytime I want. There’s always a jar in the pantry and my fridge is never, ever without milk and mayonnaise. So, I take a minute to whisk all the ingredients together and, voilà, I’ve got ranch that’s far superior to anything I’m going to find at the grocery store. As Ina would say, how easy is that?
*Adam loves them now. He was bordering on anti-mayonnaise when we met and that wasn’t going to fly. He’s thankfully been fully indoctrinated. We have a Duke’s Mayonnaise painting in our kitchen.

So, without further ado, let’s get into the recipe. Again, I guarantee once you make this once and see how easy it is, you’ll never, ever go back to store bought ranch.

- 2 tbsp dried parsley
- 1 tbsp dried dil I like a dill heavy ranch!

- Blend all ingredients until fine in a food processor or blender (I use my nutri-bullet). It should take just seconds. Store in an airtight container. When you are ready for ranch dressing, whisk (you must use a whisk!) 1 tbsp of dry mix, 1/3 cup mayo, 1/3 cup milk, and 2 tsp lemon juice. Add more dry mix to taste. Enjoy!
Is this equivalent to one packet of store-bought packet? Thanks for sharing!

Yes, this should make more than a store bought packet (though don’t hold me to that — I’ve only bought a store bought packet once and it was a long time ago!).
