I’ve got a $30 nap dress find for y’all today. I’ve been reluctant to jump on the bandwagon because I’m not going to shell out $125 for the Hill House Home version because, to be honest, I don’t love a tiered look. I think the neckline is incredibly flattering, but the overall vibe is just a bit too Little House on the Prairie for my personal style.
Target Black Swiss Dot Dress: A $30 Nap Dress Find
Enter a trip to Target this weekend. I was there to find planters for our front yard (spoiler: I found these and I’m obsessed), but, of course, I swung through the women’s clothing section just to see what might be in stock. I hadn’t actually bought clothes, with the exception of a vintage blazer from a local secondhand shop, in months. I mean…I don’t need any, right?!
Then this feminine black swiss dot frock caught my eye. With its square neckline and delicately puffed sleeves, it had total nap dress vibes…but for a fraction of the cost. The dressing rooms at my local Target are still blocked off, so I brought it home to try on and, well, it was love at first sight. I feel like a dainty woman who tends to her garden, watering can in hand, frolicking barefoot through the grass. Or perhaps sipping iced tea on the veranda.
The dress is super lightweight, yet lined, with elastic around the puff sleeves for slightly ballooned look. The swiss dot material has a nostalgic feel, something that could have been homemade by someone’s grandmother. And, the neckline, oh, the neckline! We need to bring a flattering square neck back into style because there’s nothing better than a square to literally frame your face.
Now, before you run right out to grab this $30 nap dress find, which I’d suggest you actually order online for in-store pickup, here’s a note on sizing: I can go XS or S in most dresses, assuming they aren’t fitted on the bottom. I definitely was better off with an XS here. It’s a generous cut. That in mind, go out and be the delicate house dress wearing flower you were mean to be!
Note: This dress hasn’t gotten great reviews online, which I assume comes from people who don’t realize the silhouette they’re buying. This isn’t a fitted dress. It’s loose and billowy — that’s the style!
