Who needs the nap dress, I’m going for the lady day dress this summer. What’s a lady day dress? Well, it’s a term I made up to describe a dress that’s a bit more tailored, but also blousey. It fits a bit loose up top, in the way that’s incredibly flattering, and gently drapes into an a-line skirt. It’s not full, but it’s certainly not fitted. There’s often a collar and it’s always, always below the knee.
I like to think it’s very royals on an international tour.
Finding the Perfect Lady Day Dress
I stumbled upon this style of dress while ordering and returning far too many nap dresses. I have one nap dress style that I love from Target and it was 100% worth the under $30 price tag given how many times I’ve worn it.
But most of the styles I tried just didn’t feel like me. I wanted easy, loose summer dresses that wouldn’t feel oppressive on the hottest of summer days. I wanted length because lounging around in a short dress simply isn’t comfortable if you ask me. Something I could wear casually at home, but dress up for brunch or dinner out if needed.
I was looking for something that felt like Kate Middleton meets Julia Berolzheimer.
Enter the lady day dress. I found this one at Mango and it’s perfection. I’ve worn it twice already in the past 5 days. It’s lightweight, breezy, feminine, and more tailored than a nap dress. This is what you’ll find me in literally the rest of the summer. And, I’ve rounded up a bunch of options at different price points just below this first image.
