I pulled together this resin tablescape on a busy Tuesday evening as Adam and I celebrated Rosh Hashanah. Adam and I fell in love with resin dining ware last year when we ate at Little Pearl for our anniversary. They served one of the dishes in a small resin bowl and we asked our server for the details. Ever since then, we’ve been scheming to replace all our dishware with smooth, gorgeous resin. It hasn’t happened yet, but we’re on our way.
Creating a Tablescape with Resin Accents
In my ideal world, I’d have an entire tablescape of all resin pieces. But, my ideal world is pricey, so, for now, I’m simply accenting what I already have. Most of my dishware here at the condo is black and white, so these white resin serving bowls fit right in. I used black stoneware plates and cups from Catharge Co., vintage candlesticks, bowls from Crate and Barrel, and flatware from CB2. If I were to choose a colored resin, I would do all white dishware with pops of color.
The resin pieces I used from Nashi Home are the Large Round Bowl, which at 16.5″ across is perfect for a huge salad or, as I did here, serving bread, the 12.6″ Medium Round Bowl, great for a smaller dish or everyday salad, and the Jumbo Salad Servers, which have the most fun short and stout shape.
Nashi Home Review
While these are my first resin pieces so I don’t have anything to compare them with, I’m absolutely in love with Nashi Home’s bowls. They feel heavy duty and strong, yet lightweight (read: I’m not delicately trying to remove it from the shelf, while also super afraid I’m going to drop it). Each piece feels so unique since they’re individually poured and they have this organic look that draws you in.
Here’s the background: Nashi Home is an Australian company who takes their inspiration from the landscape around them. They make their products out of resin which, according to Google, is a “solid or highly viscous substance of plant or synthetic origin that is typically convertible into polymers.” It’s not plastic, but it’s not stone either. It’s a hard, matte, light material that feels wonderful in your hand and is easy to clean. They promise it doesn’t stain and we had zero issues with quickly cleaning our two bowls and servers after dinner.
Also, for the record, Nashi Home’s pieces are BPA free, non-porous, FDA-approved food safe, and shatter resistant.
What We Served for Rosh Hashanah
For the curious, here’s what we served for Rosh Hashanah. I made matzo ball soup from the Manischewitz mix — this is a staple in our house. So, so easy, and it’s just not one of the menu items that I want to invest time into homemade when there’s a quick, tasty option. We did an easy spinach salad with walnuts, apples, goat cheese, and a honey balsamic vinaigrette (see what I did there with apples and honey?).
A Moroccan crock pot chicken was a healthier alternative to brisket, but, to be honest, this recipe was lackluster. I picked up challah from one of my favorite DC bakeries, Ravenhook Bakehouse, and, for dessert, we had the incredible, seriously incredible, Nutella babka from Capitol Jill Baking. She sells out every Wednesday for Sunday pickup, but you must try this at least once.
