Capitol Hill Condo Tour: A Black and White Bedroom

Our Capitol Hill Condo Tour continues with our bedroom. To catch up, previously, I shared our living roomdining/bar area, kitchen, home office, guest bathroom, and gallery wall hall.

The main bedroom is a space that feels much bigger than it is — I’m not sure of the exact measurements but I would guess it’s around 12′ x 12′. Yet, it feels so much more spacious thanks to a wall entirely of windows and a hallway within the room that adds an extra “dressing room” space and includes a large lightwell window. Within that space, we have one large two door closet and then another slightly-larger-than-standard closet. I’ve mentioned it before, but the storage in this condo is part of what sold us.

Our Black and White Bedroom

Because the square footage isn’t vast, we do have to maximize every space. We don’t have room for a king bed to fit comfortably, so we have a metal queen bed frame and utilize one side of the bed for Adam’s dresser. A tall, skinny lingerie chest in the corner is mine.

The layout is optimized for the room so we’ve never changed a thing but I do switch up the bedding on a regular basis. If you’ve been here a while, you’ve probably seen more than a few iterations, everything from our Midnight Jungle linen bedding to our crisp white bedding to faux fur accents in the winter. Everything fits within the black and white neutral color palette, which makes it super easy to swap out different blankets and layers. And both prints and solids seem to work with the statement piece in our bedroom — the drapery. These greek key drapes that cover the entire back wall were actually left by the previous owner and, since they are custom fit to the space, we decided to keep them. They’re so chic and so well made that I have zero regrets working with what was there — and we know that’s not my typical m.o.

When it comes to styling, I’ve kept this room super simple. I want our bedroom to feel like a retreat, with minimal extra accessories or visual clutter. Our bedroom is truly for sleeping. We don’t have a TV in here and we don’t hang out in here otherwise. It’s just a space to relax, as I think a bedroom should be.
