Because I took approximately 500 photos while in Edenton, NC, I decided to split my recap into two posts, the first being the Captain’s Quarters Edenton review. Also, you can save 20% on any Carolina Experience property with code BIEN through 2023.
We had the most delightful stay in Edenton, North Carolina last month, right before we headed to High Point. It’s a small coastal town filled with history and perfect for a weekend trip. There’s just enough to do to keep you busy, without feeling like you’re missing anything. You can hit all the high points — history tours, a few restaurants, shopping, and strolls through downtown — easily in 48 hours. I’ll have my full travel guide up in the next week or so but, trust me, this is a trip worth taking.
About The Carolina Experience
First, a note on the hospitality family that Captain’s Quarters is a member of: The Carolina Experience. They host short term rentals across North Carolina that are akin to a hotel at properties from coastal regions like Edenton and Carolina Beach to Southern Pines to Blowing Rock and Elkin in the mountains. Within their portfolio, there are bed and breakfast inns, large single family homes, boutique apartments, and collections of cabins.
In Edenton, the Captain’s Quarters is right next door to the Granville Queen Inn, and both are gorgeous bed and breakfast style properties with a small number of rooms and lobby spaces. The manager of the two sister inns was so kind and my expectations are high for their other properties.
Captain’s Quarters Edenton Review
We spent Friday afternoon through Sunday morning at the Captain’s Quarters. A typical April weekend, we had warm spring temperature one day and a cold front bringing in rain storms the next. But sitting on the front porch here, with treats snagged at the Saturday morning farmer’s market, all was well.
Captain’s Quarters Location
Captain’s Quarters is on the edge of the historic district and walkable to everything from the main street to restaurants to the historic waterfront. It’s no more than ten minutes wherever you want to go. For those who are driving, it has free parking.
Our Room at Captain’s Quarters
We stayed in Room 4 at the Captain’s Quarters Inn, which was an incredibly large and light-filled space with a king bed, sofa, and desk. It’s a bright space with robin’s egg blue walls and white bedding.
Breakfast at Captain’s Quarters
Breakfast is served next door at The Granville Queen Inn, both in their indoor dining room as well as their sun porch. Both mornings we were there, breakfast started with a sweet treat (the cinnamon roll was a personal favorite), and then a simple breakfast of eggs and toast was served. It was exactly what I wanted first thing in the morning. Nothing too fancy, but absolutely delicious. They serve coffee from the local roaster, which we actually visited just so we could bring home a bag.
Common Spaces at Captain’s Quarters
Having places to relax that are not my room is a must when traveling and you can’t beat the large porches on both the Captain’s Quarters and the Granville Queen Inn. We hung out here before dinner Friday, after dinner Friday, after exploring all day Saturday, and again Sunday morning before breakfast. We had cool spring weather and, even with the rainstorms, it was so incredibly serene.
Final Verdict on Captain’s Quarters: I would 100% recommend the Captain’s Quarters. We had the most lovely, relaxing weekend exploring Edenton, as well as spending time just relaxing on the front porch. It’s a delightful home base for relaxing or just spending time on the property.
