Hello From an Incredibly, Incredibly Busy Spring Season!

Hello from me! It’s been quiet around here this spring because I’m in the midst of perhaps the busiest season yet — which, I know, I’ve said before. But, truly, renovating a house top-to-bottom while living in it and trying to get it all done within four months has been a whirlwind. I thought we had a little bit of a head start during the months where we were under a stop work order but, as it turns out, decisions you make before you’re actually in it might as well not be made.

Renovating an old house means twists and turns at every opportunity, and we’ve had to make decisions then make them again three more times. There are things I got months ago that I forgot about by the time we actually started on a room and other design plans that I changed my mind about once it actually came time to implement.

We’ve also added in weekend trips nearly every weekend, for better or worse. On one hand, it means we’re out of the mess of the renovation and out of our contractor’s way. On the other, it means we’re not there working on DIY projects, trying to get the garden in acceptable shape, or sourcing items we need to finish the house. As I write this, I’m in the car en route to Richmond, next weekend we’re in New Jersey for Passover, then I head to Charlottesville for a press trip, then we have one weekend off before the Capitol Hill House and Garden Tour.

I have so much renovation and travel content to share; I just need to get the time to edit photos! So, bear with me, I promise I’ll be around here more often soon. Thankfully, we’re in the home stretch. Three weeks and I’ll have my time back. In the meantime, I’m going to pop in here when I can. Hopefully get a newsletter out on occasion and try not to disappear from sharing all the pretty things I see out in the world.
