When I posted a photo earlier this season of my living room, several people immediately messaged me wanting details on our holiday card display. In past years, I’ve always thrown all the cards in a dish and called it a day. But, now that we have a baby and are leaning into being home rather than spending the season traveling here, there, and everywhere, I’m trying harder to create a festive feeling in our own home.
Displaying cards seemed like a low level lift and one that could add a decorative touch to the living room, especially since our tree is upstairs in the dining room. I had a vision and a gorgeous dark burgundy and gold ribbon that I picked up at the estate sale of a former florist who was downsizing. A nail and a few minutes later, I had an easy and festive display.
How to Create an Easy Ribbon Holiday Card Display
Here’s the breakdown of what I did.
• Choose a wide ribbon
• Cut it to 3/4 length of your door
• Using a tiny nail, attach it to the top of the door
• Snip the bottom of the ribbon to finish it into two tails (for the uninitiated, fold it in half and make a single diagonal cut towards the side that’s folded)
• Use gold paper clips to attach the cards
You can get fancy at the top by just making a knot with wired ribbon and leaving two tails. Pin it to the main ribbon and zsuzh it up. As cards roll in throughout the season, you can add more ribbons. I ended up with three across, and it’s the most delightful holiday decor touch, and one that friends love looking through when they visit.
