I was recently listening to the Ballard Designs podcast (a must-listen for me), and, as they were discussing 2026 trends, they brought up toile. Apparently toile is trending this year.
It’s news to me that toile was ever in the running to be a trend or not. I’ve always seen it as a timeless pattern that didn’t need to have another moment in the sun. It’s always been there, and it always will.
My own toile journey has been long and varied. My first post-dorm bedroom in college had blue and white toile details throughout, then I ventured into black and white toile with blush walls post-college, before dipping my toe into green and white toile in my Glover Park days. Eventually, I landed back where I started, and my bedroom is now swathed in blue and white toile from floor to ceiling.
