Hi, I’m Heather Bien, a lifestyle content creator and writer. I’m also a Capitol Hill resident in Washington, DC with a love for good style, good food, frequent travel, and the occasional leopard print.
You can find me here on heatherbien.com writing about all matters of lifestyle — style, travel, home, beauty, and wedding. Among my favorite things, and those you’ll see on here on a regular basis, are bright colors, local DC makers, crossing off to-do lists, easy weekend getaways, and mid-century design.
A BIT MORE ABOUT WHERE I COME FROM
Originally from the now super-hip city of Richmond, Virginia, I grew up wanting to be a writer or an interior designer – and, now, I suppose a do a little bit of both. I ventured up the road to Charlottesville, Virginia to attend the University of Virginia (go Hoos!). I studied Art History and Architectural History and, after college, I worked at small interior design firms in both Charlottesville and Washington, DC. In DC, I found an amazing and inspiring creative community and a place to call home.
Along the way, I started blogging and switched careers to a path that led me to my current role working in content marketing for a tech company. No guarantee on whether I’m staying in DC for life or not — I did marry a Texan after all — but I’m happy to have landed here…even if we don’t have representation in the Senate.

While my editorial focus is on easy weekend getaways on the East Coast, my travels take me all over the world, and I’m open to collaborations near and far! In the past, I’ve worked with the Greenbrier in West Virginia, the Healdsburg, California Visitors Bureau, the Key West Visitors Bureau, the Marker Resort, the Clift Hotel in San Francisco, the Graduate Hotel in Richmond, the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Red Fox Inn in Middleburg, Virginia, Quarters on King in Charleston, SC, the Charleston Visitors Bureau, and the Oakhurst Inn in Charlottesville, VA, among many others.
I recently moved and took on the project of transitioning my feminine decor into a gender-neutral space. The apartment I share with my husband was recently featured on Houzz and I’d love to share it with more audiences! Please contact me if you would be interested in an apartment tour for your website. Similarly, if you have a design question or project, email me! I worked in interior design for several years and I’m still happy to take on new projects!
I was married in December 2018 and I absolutely loved sharing the planning process with my readers! I’m still working through many, many posts about the details and the day, and I would be thrilled to continue partner on wedding content!
