So, I’ve got a few bedroom updates for you today, but, let me start by saying, I still LOVE the CB2 Midnight Jungle bedding that I featured in my first post on our bedroom in the new place. That has not been abandoned. BUT, I had an amazing opportunity to work with PB Teen and there was no way I could pass that up. I’ve sworn by PB Teen’s designs for years—our previous bedroom linens were all PB Teen. It is the best resource for crisp, graphic bedding and, as long as you shop it correctly, there’s not a hint of “teen.”
PB TEEN BEDDING GROWS UP
When you think of PB Teen, you’re probably imagining your dream room as a 12-year old—pink, purple, maybe some tie-dye and macrame. Just color and texture gone crazy. Well, I’ve found that PB Teen actually carries some of the most sophisticated, striking bedding on the market.
Since I already have an intricate, jungle-inspired toile as my primary bedding, I wanted something simple and graphic for our backup—and I wanted it to have a touch of boho to play into the warm woods of the mirror, fan, and dresser, while staying minimalist enough to avoid competing with the bold print of the drapery.
I first considered going with a black duvet and standard ivory sheets, I decided that it could be fun to do the inverse of the usual. Black sheets are a stark contrast to what we typically expect and this tufted ivory duvet has bohemian vibes, but with a refined, grown-up edge. Sure, you could pair them with paisley for something a bit more offbeat, but the juxtaposition of the smooth black with the rough ivory is both unexpected and sophisticated.

A BEDROOM MUST-HAVE: MINKA-AIRE WAVE CEILING FAN
As soon as we bought our place, we knew that one of our first jobs on the to-do list would be installing ceiling fans. I’ve gone way too many years living in rentals with ugly flush-mount ceiling lighting in the bedroom and it was time to upgrade.
These fans actually have a funny backstory…I found them online and fell in love with the sleek, mid-century inspired lines and the warm wood. I showed them to Adam since they were a bit more than I was hoping to spend, and he goes, “I think those are the same fans that were in my parents’ house when they bought it—and they took them down.” A quick phone call later and it was confirmed, yup, same fans, and two of them were sitting in my sister-in-law’s garage. On our next trip down to Austin, we packaged them up and shipped them to DC for less than the price of one fan. Talk about serendipity.
I’ve posted photos a few times on Instagram where the fan made an appearance and received a slew of messages asking for details, so, if you’re one of those people, here’s the easy-peasy Amazon link. (For the record, one of the reviewers brought down the rating with a complaint about a loud hum…I haven’t noticed it at all with either of ours!)
ADDING IN THE DETAILS
I’m typically conservative when it comes to the details in a bedroom. Think about how well you sleep in a hotel—could it be because of the restraint and minimalism in the decor? I happen to think so. The highest compliment I’ve received about our home is when someone walked into our bedroom and said, “Do you live in a hotel?!” Yup, that’s the vibe I’m going for.
But, of course, what’s a bedroom without just a few intimate details? So, I added a framed wedding photo on each bedside table in a gold frame (one found at Home Goods…and the other, an exact match in landscape form, for 99 cents at Goodwill), along with our wedding invitation in a gold floating frame. A terrarium, a brass pineapple tray, a brass giraffe ring dish round out the vignette.
Oh, and a candle—because a bedroom should always have a signature scent.
I worked with PB Teen on a photography collaboration this summer. It was an absolute dream to partner with a brand that I’ve raved about for years!
