I have very little to share in our Monaco travel diary, except that we went there. We’d heard from more than a few people that it was worth driving through, but not spending any significant time. We also heard that you should expect to spend an absurd amount of money on anything you buy — even a burger. We may live in a HCOL city, but this is one of the most expensive cities in the world. And we didn’t feel the need to stop for a meal or do anything beside just see it to see.
Note: Adam wanted a passport stamp but, alas, Monaco does not stamp passports unless you’re coming from a Schengen country!
Monaco Travel Diary
Monaco is only 0.8 square miles — it’s the second smallest sovereign state in the world (the first being Vatican City), and it’s greatest claim to fame is likely the marriage of American actress Grace Kelly to the Prince of Monaco, which was rumored at times to be a tourism play for the country. Now, Monaco is now for super yachts, the Monte Carlo Casino, and designer shopping.
We strolled around Monaco, taking in the sights, peering over the incredible views of the yachts on the Mediterranean Sea, wandering around town, and popping in the gorgeous St. Charles Church. Looking back, I wish we’d toured the Prince’s Palace of Monaco, but we’ll save that for next time we’re driving along the French Riviera.
It’s a pristine place, perhaps the cleanest, most intentionally planned city I’ve ever seen, but we didn’t feel the need to stay longer than a quick walkabout. However, I’d love to know about others’ experiences!
