Anyone who’s ever heard the fanfare over these luxury skincare products has definitely wondered if Augustinus Bader is worth the splurge. Grace Atwood is one of the most fervent ambassadors for it — I feel like she talked about it constantly when she was on Bad on Paper. The words “holy grail” had definitely been used. So obviously I’ve been curious about it for years.
My skincare tastes go high and low. I love Weleda Skin Food, which is a bargain buy, and I use Aquaphor as eye cream. But I also do think that some high-end products are 100% worth it. There are some results that a splurge product can give you that are just better than a drugstore product — maybe it’s because of the beautiful packaging and experience, but I definitely buy into it.
All this is to say, I was so excited to see whether Augustinus Bader products are worth the splurge.
Augustinus Bader Review: Foaming Cleanser and Face Cream Mask
I’ve been using two Augustinus Bader products which were, in full transparency, sent to me to try out. I wanted to give them several months to make sure I could speak honestly to my thoughts, and here’s what I thought.
Augustinus Bader The Face Cream Mask
What often happens to me with products that really work is that I’ll notice my skin looks really good or feels really supple in the morning, but I won’t necessarily connect it to the product right away. It might take a few days, then I’m like OH, that’s why!
That’s what happened with The Face Cream Mask.
They advertise this product as either a 10-minute mask or an overnight mask. To be honest, I don’t know why you’d use it as a 10-minute mask, so I didn’t even try it that way. I use this as my night cream. It has the nicest, silkiest texture, and it leaves my skin super soft and hydrated. It has a trio of Chinese roots extract, which apparently is helpful for hydrating and reducing wrinkles, and vitamin C, which is brightening. I’d say it does all of the above.
There is also no fragrance at all, which I’m indifferent to, but I think that’s a plus for a lot of people, especially for a night cream.
Augustinus Bader Foaming Cleanser
Cleansers are tough. You want it to feel like it’s cleansing, but you also don’t want your face to feel squeaky clean. The Augustinus Bader Foaming Cleanser actually does strike that balance right in between. It’s a foaming cleanser with a nice consistency — not too watery, but not so thick you’re fighting against it.
Because it foams, you actually feel like it’s getting the day off your face. I use it after a makeup removing balm, and it perfectly removes that. I tend to use this at night rather than in the morning, and you don’t need much. A few months in, and I still have a decent amount of the tube left. It’s a nice little luxury to end the day before I begin my nighttime skincare routine.
One thing that did surprise me is that the metallic finish quickly starts to flake off the top of the cleanser bottle when it gets wet, which a cleanser obviously does. I feel like they need to look at another option because it starts to look cheap and dingy, which is not what you want from this expensive of a cleanser.

Is Augustinus Bader Worth the Splurge?
Is Augustinus Bader worth the splurge? What I always return to when people me this question is that it totally depends. These products are beautifully packaged, they leave your skin soft and hydrated, and, the size is significant, even for the price.
So if you value the experience of a high-end skincare product, if you love that feeling a more luxurious formula, and you don’t mind spending a pretty penny, then, yes, Augustinus Bader is absolutely worth it.
