The Practical Gifts I’m Putting in the Baby’s First Easter Basket

I’m sure I’ve mentioned here before my dislike of buying holiday clutter. I don’t need specifically themed items for every occasion. I love a little whimsy, but I’d rather not achieve that by wasting money on items that will see the light of day for just a moment of two.

But, as an April birthday, Easter has always been one of my favorite holidays. I love the soft colors, the candy, and the promise of crisp spring days. My birthday has fallen on Easter more than once, and I was fortunate enough to have a bunny cake growing up.

So of course I have to do an Easter basket, even if all the baby will do is rip the items out and immediately put them in their mouth.

The Practical Items I’m Putting in the Baby’s First Easter Basket

For the baby’s first Easter basket, I’m focusing on practical items that are vaguely Easter or spring-themed, but that we actually do need. They’re darling, because isn’t all kids’ stuff cute? But they’re also functional items I’d buy anyway.

For the basket itself, I’m reusing what I already have. I don’t want to store a basket that is unused 364 days out of the year, so I’m snagging a vintage basket that I already use for toy storage in the nursery. To zshush it up, I got the cutest monogrammed gingham bow from Pottery Barn.

Here’s what will go in the first Easter basket (alongside some robin’s eggs, which will obviously be consumed by yours truly).

  • Pat the Bunny: How do we not already have this book?! A bunny is on theme, and this is a book from my childhood that I loved for years longer than was probably age-appropriate.
  • Bitzy Crinkle Bunny: I had no idea what a hit crinkly toys with teethers were going to be. I need one in every bag, so why not pick a rabbit-themed crinkle for an Easter basket surprise?
  • Lil’ Cactus Seersucker Bubble: We’re going to be bubblin’ all summer long. A classic light blue seersucker bubble? A must-have for the Easter basket.
  • Pipette Mineral Sunscreen: We’re a month out from being able to use sunscreen and baby has my porcelain complexion. Since Pipette (our favorite brand) has the perfect spring green branding, I might as well throw this in the basket, too.
  • Striped Seersucker Cap: We very quickly realized that we need two of any item the baby uses at daycare (I say as the sunhat is sitting in a cubby, and we’ve been without it all weekend). I grabbed an extra hat so we’ll have one at home, too.
  • Yellow and White Swim Outfit: How sweet is this?! If you’ve seen the graphics about how well you can see different colors of swimsuits in the water, you’ll know that yellow is a great color for a kids’ swimsuit. This one is cute and safe.
  • Peter Rabbit Stoneware Plates: I need something, too, right?! These might be the most Easter-specific, but I’ll use them all spring long.
