Boots and Bourbon

This past Saturday was the Virginia Gold Cup Races, and my first ever fall steeplechase experience. We had a windy, but sunny day—the perfect crisp, fall weather—and plenty of good drinks and good food. Pimento cheese, ham biscuits (on sweet potato rolls!), pecan pie bars, Benedictine sandwiches, and plenty of bourbon made for a delicious spread.

We had adorable cups and napkins made for the occasion from Sip Hip Hooray, a black watch plaid tablecloth, silver serving pieces and even a state of Virginia cheese board to create a festive tailgate—I wish I’d remembered to get pictures of the table in action! Luckily I’ve got plenty of horse pics for you.

And, since clearly Barbour is the outerwear of choice at any fall horse racing event, I’ve linked a few of my favorite fall jackets in the images below. I have the Beadnell jacket in Sage and while it’s an investment, I wear it several times a week throughout the fall and winter. You can add a liner or a hood and make it an all weather jacket. The quality is unbeatable and it’ll last for years. Definitely one of my best purchases.
