You can never have too much fall fun in one weekend, so after my trip out to the Gold Cup Races on Saturday, I headed back out 66 for an afternoon of pumpkin picking and wine tasting on Sunday to celebrate a friend’s birthday. First up was Hollin Farms, where not only can you pick your own pumpkins, but you can also pick apples, kale, collard greens, arugla or dig up potatoes and peanuts—quite the farm outing. After the perfect pumpkins had been selected, we went out to Aspen Dale Winery. While I’m still partial to the mountain views of the Albemarle and Afton vineyards, I’ve got to say this gorgeous barn setting (with mini-horses!) is the best I’ve seen in the DC area. Plus, their wines are the best I’ve had in Northern Virginia and they do food pairings with the tasting. I’ll absolutely be back on a day when they have their pheasant sausage and sage cheese.
So what does one wear on a fall outing to the country? I tend to go all out fall in shades of navy and brown. While this isn’t actually what I wore on Sunday, I did wear this yesterday to work and it’s definitely my new favorite outfit. I love stripes all through the spring and summer, so making them work in the fall is even better. Also on the summer to fall transition note, if you’re in your white jeans all summer, make sure you have a pair of ecru jeans in your closet for cooler weather.
