Inspired by several bloggers I follow, I’m going to try to do monthly round-ups of what I’m currently gravitating towards in my closet. Hopefully, on occasion, I’ll be able to link at least a few of the items exactly (though, as many of you know, about 75% of my summer wardrobe comes from the block print dress vendor at Eastern Market).
A Few of My Favorite Summer Outfits
…or at least the ones I had photos of in my camera roll. Summer is the season of loose, flowy dresses for me. I can’t even bear the thought of putting on anything snug or, god forbid, a pair of jean shorts. Literally nothing worse. I want fabric as far away from my body as possible. Here are a few of my favorite stay-cool dresses in my current rotation.
Striped Shirtdress
I love a shirtdress, and this one from Sezane is perfect because it will transition right from summer into fall. I can see it paired with boots and tights as soon as the weather turns chilly. I paired it with a vintage resin bracelet, a pair of baroque pearl, earrings that I made, and my go-to Mansur Gavriel tote, which holds my laptop and everything I need for work meetings. Size reference: I bought a 4.
Pink and Blue Block Print Dress
I picked up this dress at Eastern Market a few weeks ago, and I love this super flowy silhouette, as well as the pretty pink and blue print. If you’re not in DC, you can find similar options on Etsy. I wore it with my trusty white Jack Rogers, which have been a favorite for literal decades. This was my travel outfit for both going up to the Hudson Valley and going back.
Blue and White Striped Dress
This blue and white striped dress was one of my first Quince purchases, and I’ve worn it more times than I can count. It’s so perfectly crisp and lightweight for summer. My only complaint is that it’s a bit narrow through the legs for a full-length dress, so I may have a slit cut in the back. I believe this picture was taken on a day I was just bopping around town. Size reference: I bought a small.
Embroidered Dress
I did a full review of this embroidered Sezane dress earlier, and it continues to be favorite. For a press trip dinner that called for resort casual, I wore it with my Sarah Flint Perfect Block Sandals, Sezane earrings, and this Target clutch that continues to be one of my best buys of all time. Size reference: I bought this in a 6.
Green Block Print Dress
Another day, another block print dress from Eastern Market. This color combination is one of my favorites. I wore it with a Lizzie Fortunato birthstone charm — not my birthstone — from Shelter (a fabulous jewelry shop in Union Market) and gold Jack Rogers. I wore this to a cookout at a friend’s house.
Purple Smocked Dress
I’ve raved about Few Moda for years, and their smocked dresses are some of my favorites. So comfy and so versatile for a day of working at my computer then scooting over to a client site for a quick meeting. Size reference: I think it’s a small?
Embroidered Shirt and Jeans
This embroidered shirt is right in my wheelhouse of what I usually buy from Sezane. I think I have three of their embroidered button downs now? I paired it with an old white cardigan, dark, straight jeans from J. Crew, my Mansur Gavriel tote, and an old pair of blue suede heels from Everlane. I wore this for a few client meetings. Size reference: I bought the shirt in a 6.
Black Dress and Scarf
A simple fit and flare black dress from Few Moda has been one of my favorites all spring and summer and, on this unusually cool evening, I paired it with a jean jacket I’ve had since high school, a scarf I picked up in Mexico City a few years ago, the Target clutch, and my Sarah Flint Perfect Block Sandal in a higher heel height. Size reference: I bought the dress in a 4.
