A December Snow on Capitol Hill + Snow Day Essentials

There’s nothing I love more than a snow day. Give me a blizzard all winter long, and I’m happy. I won’t complain about the traffic snarls (admittedly, I rarely drive) or the shoveling (okay, I’ve never shoveled), and I certainly won’t think twice about “being cold.”

The minute the first flakes start to fall, I’m throwing on wool socks and my puffer jacket, and I’m headed out the door with my camera. Capturing the picture perfect scenes around Capitol Hill on a snow day is one of my favorite occasions of the year. Obviously, this year looked a bit different. I wasn’t getting outside with a baby (I did not think to buy a snowsuit…though obviously now I am), so I had to make do with what I could capture from my house. Thank god for a great angle from the balcony.

Snow Day Essentials

You can guarantee that on the next snow day, I’ll be prepared. Or, rather, the baby will be prepared. We’ll hit the neighborhood sidewalks, ready to take in the pristine snowfall and the charming vignettes. There’s no way I’m missing a snow day in December when there’s Christmas decor at every turn. But, until then, I’ll take inventory to make sure I’m prepared and that my fur ear muffs are ready to grab at a moment’s notice.
